Jackfruit moong dal payasam is a flavorful treat for jackfruit lovers. There are many ways of preparing this payasam. In this recipe, I have used ripe jackfruit pieces, split green gram, jaggery with little soaked rice paste to get nice thick texture to payasam. Do try this dish which is delicious for any occasion.
Here goes the simple recipe
Preparation time: 5 mins
Cooking time: 10 mins
Serves: 4 Nos
Jackfruit pieces – 1 cup
Split green gram or moong dal – 1/4 cup
Jaggery – 3/4 cup grated
Soaked rice – 2 tsp
Grated coconut – 2 tbsp
Cardamom or yellaki powder- 1 tsp
Finely chopped dry fruits – ¼ cup (almond and cashew)
- Grind together few pieces of jackfruit, soaked rice, grated coconut, few almond into fine paste.
- Pressure cook split green gram or moong dal until soft.
- Add the ground paste, cooked split green gram or moong dal, remaining jackfruit pieces, jaggery, and cardamom powder to a vessel with required amount of water and boil well on medium flame.
- After the jaggery melts, add the ghee fried dry fruits and boil for 1 min. Serve hot.
Jackfruit payasam can also be prepared using only grated coconut, jaggery and ripe jackfruit pieces.
Coconut milk can also be used for payasam preparation.
The jaggery quantity can be adjusted based on the sweetness of ripe jackfruit pieces.
